Benn i have a question on your MoD suggestion wouldn't DMK/SHM be repetitive with 2 pets?

Yes, the pets would be repetitive, but Shaman has buffs that are perfect for a combatant. In fact, it also has a better pet than Doom Knight. It has a much higher level and a class with far better health and defense. The reason I mentioned shaman wasn't for the pets though, it was for the buffs and poisons.

WHAT ????? SHAMAN's PETS BETTER THAN DMK ONES ???? that's false .... except at really high level ... don't forget than dmk's pet is tri class and that the shaman's are only warrior ..... More dmk has wicking spells that helps a lot .... I played shaman and necromancer ... and a level 30 the necro is still better ....

but I don't know for higher levels

I did mean at high levels actually. As for "wicking", what's that? Doom Knights have some instant damage spells with penalties for the victim, Damage over Time, Fears, and Pets as far as spells go. (that I can think of at the moment) I'm not certain which you are referring to.

Speaking of which, where did the M in DMK come from? DMK stands for death knight (I think), so where in the world did the M get into the abbreviation?

it comes from doom knight ..... so DM K

as for the wicking benn they are the buffing spells for your pets !! as grim augmentation surge of speed etc etc etc ... and shaman doesn't have those spells that buff your pet .

When I said Damage over Time, I was referring clumping spells like Grim Leeches and Parasitic Worms together. Possibly not the best way of saying it, but they both serve similar purposes in fights, drain HP out of the victim. The leeches simply have the added benefit of regenerating health simultaneously. I tend to use those spells first in any fight that isn't handed to me on a golden platter.

I'm using ASN/DMK/REV. I consider that a tank build. I rarely call my pet or use spells. The skill set I have makes it easy for quick kills, so the pets and spells are rarely needed.

The sneak (or blight walk)/backstab combo is a great way to start off. Then when u use merciless strike/bloodletting/fatal blow/kick/shield bash/death touch...more often than not, the mob is close to death. If not, I still have death spin and knight of chaos to use. If multiple mobs are around, I have spinning blades. Add poison to all this and it is definitely an awesome tank. Plus, I advanced all the melee hastes and crit advancements I could to this point. That really helps. When I fought the master in AF and had deci heal me, I crit the sucker 4 or 5 times during the fight. Deci said it took him about 10 minutes to kill the master with shadowbat healing. I wiped him out almost before deci could heal me once. The only con to tanks is slower lvl gain. U can't really kite mobs 10-15 lvls higher than u for the killer xp. To really get good xp, the mobs leave u pretty close to death. So u have to rest quite a bit between fights. And that's another great use for sneak/blight walk. U can rest unmolested. Feign death is also a lifesaver.

I love tanks. I can't be bothered keeping track of spells.

I am really embarrassed to admit I don't know what "kiting" is. Unless it's out-running a mob while throwing nukes at it? If so, I have kited quite a bit, especially in the Desert of Mohrum where there's good running room!

Yep...that's kiting. I hate it. It's too easy to get close to other mobs when ur running blindly trying to find the next spell to cast in the spellbook.

Tanks 4ever!!

Heh, my class is a kiter/tank Smile I don't have to flip through my spellbook because I have pretty much only 6 damage spells (And archery) for kiting. For things around my level I tank, but for things way higher than me like frenzied crawlers (Ugg!) I kite and survive: I have around 60% movement increase at least with all my buffs. With a bonerot bow I looted from a summoner, they die really quickly Very Happy

Gosh my archery blows. I can't seem to get an arrow to go as far as the end of my nose! First level wizards send nukes almost over the horizon, but a level 28 archer (I forget the archery skill rating at this point but it's over 60) can throw a halfling as far as they can launch an arrow. VERY frustrating! Neutral

The distance an arrow flies is dependant on arrow range and bow range. Note those stats when choosing bows/arrows as well as damage/delay ratio. I do not believe the archery skill plays a role in this at all. But range isn't as important as the other stats. I'd rather have a fast firing bow with high damage over a slow one, or weak one, with a long range.

Theron I'd be happy to craft you some bows: I just need some spider silk for the strings. What level are you?

Thanks very much, Crazypalpig!

Some time ago I bought an apprentice fletching kit, but no components. Last night I bought components, but turns out the wrong ones at first. But before I "crashed" (went to sleep) I managed to make a bone greatbow. Yay! But the normal arrows did their normal things (range-wise). I ran out of time, but now I know I need to also upgrade my arrows. I'm sure that what I make will be weaker than what others already have, or can make, but I can always give my low-level stuff to noobs who are on their ways up as I get better stuff for myself.

Konziguri is a budding demi-tank (monk/RANGER/druid) and keeps gaining in proficiency, so I will learn this archery/fletching system and beef him up.

I am concerned that not accepting more help from guildies makes you all think I don't like you or something, but my goal is to develop toons that don't just have nice stuff and decent levels, but actually have skills trained up to make formidable, reliable comrades. A team will always have advantages (well, just about always) over a solo adventurer, but two or three really adept toons can surpass a larger party (of equal or even greater levels) if the smaller group is made up of more-skilled toons and more-skilled PLAYERS.

My struggle to build my toons "from within" as much as possible does not mean I do not want, need or welcome help! I just believe that a large guild filled with weaker toons is not a strong guild, whereas a smaller guild filled with higher-proficiency toons/players is a stronger guild. (If I'm level 50 but don't even know how to craft/enhance bows and potions, my level is wasted somewhat.) Does that make sense?

AND ... why does my account show me as "human"? Mighty big ears for a human! (Theron was the name of my absolute first, original 3D6 D&D character in 1978. A high elf.)

Are we twins Theron? I was actually considering not joining the guild when Necro asked me because I was lvl 15 at the time and thought to myself 'what can I possibly offer to a guild?' I also wasn't sure I wanted help because like u, I believe in playing the game and doing as much as u can on your own. But at some point, everyone needs a hand. I've come to see that the core group of this guild is an awesome bunch of people. I'm glad I didn't say no. Very Happy

I think my first 3D6 D&D character was a dwarf fighter. Don't recall the name. I do remember he didn't last long. Fell while climbing a rope up a cliff wearing plate. Was messy. After that, Kilro was born. Was human, but I liked the drakken description in MoM when I read it so I used that instead.

The account "race" is linked to how many posts u write. U start as human and it changes when u hit certain numbers of posts. It has nothing to do with ur toon.

As a solo, I gained a lot from alliances with people of no or any guild, so I'm not opposed to teaming up, and I am glad to be part of the guild. I just want to be a strong member, so I am trying to develop my toons independently for the most part, to be ready for combined raids when the guild needs me.

Thanks for clarifying the "human" thing. I kept looking for an account setting somewhere!
